"I know this: Less than a week ago, I had no idea who The Good Listeners were. I happened to hear “Insect Losing Balance,” their experiment with the Atari musician, on a playlist at a friend’s house. Within 48 hours, I’d heard their record and seen their film. Music travels."

but at 3 o’clock in the morning, when you’re lying in bed and the guy across from you in your six-person dorm is sawing big, thick, Pacific Northwest logs, you get to wondering if it would be worth it to shell out the extra cash for a private suite if it means not setting his bunk on fire

Probably one of my favourite things you've ever written... something about "big, thick, Pacific Northwest logs" just set that off for me.

Would you say your trip is "over"?

just watching the trailer, it got me interested. though i missed it on big screen, i know im not too late to see it on a Blu-ray DVD. with the high technology they used in filming it, plus the great actors casted on it, i believe it's one of a kind movie.

"Theron is so good in Mavis’ darker, bitchier moments that we momentarily forget how absolutely stunning she is."

Good god, yes. We kept whispering to one another, "Has Charlize aged REALLY badly, or is this makeup artist a genius??" And then there's the scene where she's readying herself for a night out at a "concert" with Buddy, and we're reminded of her beauty with just a few brushes to her eyes, lips and cheeks. They did a truly great job showing us "Mavis on the inside" by putting on the outside as well, and Theron deserves credit for managing to capture every, single. facial expression. that we know people like Mavis have as a chronic condition.

I think a lot of the audience in our theatre were (was?) expecting a comedy. I'm not even sure how I feel about calling this a "black" comedy, because aside from a few great lines here and there (many from Oswalt), there was really not much funny about the film...and that's a good thing. It's getting knocked in reviews by people who, I guess, were expecting a grown-up "Juno."

That's why I like your reviews better.

Awwww. The Kaling challenge posts have been mostly hilarious, and this one has turned to a more touching topic. Enjoying following along. Happy Holidays! I sent you my schedge. Hope we can cross paths.

P.S. I stopped blogging for a couple of weeks because of some tough times. Hospital time (me, but I think I'm ok now) and then a death in the family (first I've ever experienced). Feeling stuck. Suggest a small, manageable topic and word count pls? That little nudge, and a comfy box for my thoughts to fit in, would really help me get going again.

Thanks, fellow writer. Keep up the awesome.

I do have to agree that is was predictable, but if they weren't we wouldn't enjoy them. If you think about it, the superhero movie has now replaced our cheesy 80's and 90's action movies with Stallone, Arnie, Van Damne, or Seagal in it. Funny thing is the storyline is just the same. Captain America was refreshing though, great acting and and strong story led to it being one of the better movies. Thor didn't have a strong story behind it, and the acting suffered through the movie. I didn't think Chris Evans would do as good of a job as he did, but he definitely stepped up to the plate. I rented this movie first with my Blockbuster Movie Pass, and in the process got the wife hooked on Marvel movies, as she is now anxiously awaiting The Avengers, so I added some to out disc queue and found Iron Man streaming on the movie pass on the computer for her. Have to give a coworker props for getting me to try the movie pass, it has brought some sort of peace to our crazy house.

you do realize that the most interesting view of a pair of jeans is from the rear... it's all about how great your butt looks in them, and has very little to do with gratuitous crotch shots.
